Annex 2: Small Scale Hydropower
Annex 2 on small scale hydropower updated, managed and improved its highly successful web-site
(www.small-hydro.com) which recently has attained 100,000 “hits” per month. It also organized a series of
well-attended workshops on small scale hydropower every year in conjunction with a major international conference.
The Annex will continue in phase 3 under the new leadership of ADEME.

Annex 7: Hydropower Competence Network
Annex 7 is the successor to Annex 5 on education and training. It has further developed the software for the sharing of
teaching materials over the Internet, and has set up links between universities in Japan, Norway, Thailand, Zambia, and
Brazil as test cases. Workshops have been held in developing countries to familiarize educators with the hydropower
competence network.

Annex 8: Good Practices
Annex 8 on good practices is collecting about 70 case studies that illustrate good practices in a number of key issues
related to hydropower. The report will be published at the end of phase 2, and various dissemination activities are
planned for phase 3.

Aktuellt
Nästa sammanträde kommer att äga rum i Wien, Österike, 18-19 november 2004.
Senaste sammanträdet ägde rum i Nice i April 2004 där man bl.a.:
uppsköt valet av ny ordförande till kommande möte.
Diskuterade arbetet kring strategi inför fas 3.
Speciellt diskuterades följande:
- Phase 3 of the Implementing Agreement
- Overview of the process within the IEA to approve the next phase.
- Status report on the drafting of the strategy and End of Term report.
- Brief overview of Annexes that could be included in the third phase:
Small Scale Hydro (Annex II),
Public Awareness and dissemination of Annex VIII report (Annexes VI, VIII),
Hydropower Competence Network, Education and Training (Annex VII),
Security of hydro power plants (new Annex),
Wind and Hydropower and Ancillary Services (new Annex).
